Nigeria female actress Mercy Aigbe reacts to photo of Obasanjo kneeling down Before Olu of Warri.

Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe has reacted to a viral pics of the 84-year-old former President of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo, kneeling before the new Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III.

The 37-year-old Utieyinoritsetsola Emiko was on Saturday, crowned the 21st Olu of Warri and Obasanjo who was present at the coronation knelt and bowed before the monarch in homage to him as a sign of respect and honour.

In reaction to the viral photo the actress applauds the former president for respecting the custom and tradition of the kingdom.

Sharing the photo on her official Instagram page she wrote,When I saw this picture, one thing came to my mind, Tradition! Nothings beats our Tradition. Long live the King @oluofwarri”.

Meanwhile, The Special Assistant on Media to the former president Kehinde Akinyemi, chat with Punch explained why the ex-president knelt before the young monarch.

According to him,

Obasanjo is the Baba of Africa and he can pay homage to every exalted traditional seat. He went to Warri to pay homage to the new king.

It is a traditional institution; he (Ogiame Atuwatse III) is not the one sitting down, it is the institution that is on the throne”.

The ceremony, which attracted thousands of Itsekiri, held at the Olu’s palace, Aghofen in Ajamimogha, Warri South, Delta State.

Ogiame Atuwaste lll was crowned as the 21st Olu of Warri at the ancestral abode of the Itsekiris in Ode-Itsekiri, at the weekend.

His wife, Olori Atuwaste lll and Queen mother Iye-Olu members of the Ginuwa I Ruling House, as well as traditional chiefs of the kingdom were present.

Former President of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, Apostle Tomi Arayomi, Rev. Sam Aboyeji, Bishop Bawo Otone and Craig Omorotionwan were among officiating clerics at the service.

Delta Speaker Sheriff Oborevwori and several traditional rulers also graced the occasion.

Some indigenes of Itsekiri nation, who spoke with The Nation, stated that with Ogiame Atuwaste lll as Olu, Itsekiri nation is poised for transformation.

“If you listened to Ogiame you will know that it is forward ever for Warri kingdom.

”I have no doubt on my mind that his reign will bring peace and many more development to the area,”
