Katsina students leader condemns this attack in the strongest terms. The kidnapping of students is unacceptable. Attacks on schools, which is meant to provide a safe learning environment, is a grave violation of student’s rights

This unfortunate incident happened around 10:15pm on Friday night at Government Science Secondary School (GSSS) Kankara which resulted in scores of students been kidnapped.
Unfortunately, the attack is coming barely 24 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari arrived at Katsina for a week long private visit.

Most of the students escaped, but some were captured and taken away by the bandits. Nobody can clearify how many students were abducted.

When Will The Western Elders Begin To Have One Voice Like The Northerners

Attacks on education is not limited to the damage of education buildings and facilities but include attacks on key education assets – the most precious assets being school students, teachers and non-academic staff without which education cannot happen.

Beyond physical attacks, when due to fear, a student cannot go to school because it has become a place of danger causing the desire for the school to become eroded, then education has been attacked psychologically. When a student is afraid to go to school because the path to school is no longer safe and secure or due to a traumatic experience or knowledge of one, education has been attacked.

Katsina students calls on the Government to take the necessary measures to bring to justice those responsible for this attack and take swift action to ensure that measures are put in place to guarantee the safe access to schools to all students in Nigeria. There can be no justification for targeting students and those looking after them.
